Tonight in Portland, the Trail Blazers will get reinforcements as Trevor Ariza joins the team with Caleb Swanigan and Wenyen Gabriel after the team traded Kent Bazemore and Anothony Tolliver in a cost-cutting move. They face the Dallas Mavericks (-4.5, 229.5), who beat Portland a week ago in Texas 120-112.

This season, I have been hammering Dallas Team Total overs. The Mavs are averaging 116.4 points per game. Portland has been terrible at guarding the perimeter all-season. There is hope in Rip City that Ariza will help that, but having just arrived in Portland on Tuesday, shouldn’t impact tonight’s game.

An eye for concern is with Dwight Powell and his Achilles injury that will take him out for a year. Powell has a net rating of 8.9, which is significant and not easily replaced.

The good news for Dallas is Kristaps Porzingis is back in the lineup. His length can give Portland trouble with the rash of frontcourt injuries the team has dealt with all season.

I won’t touch the spread pregame outside of announcing a Rip City Challenge play on my Twitter. I’m not a big fan of needing 230 points from a make-shift Blazers team. But, I will once again go back to try the Mavs team total over 116.5 points. Even when the full-game total has not gone over, the team total has worked out well.
