How to bet the Padres Moneyline

Similar to hockey, and unlike basketball or football, the moneyline is the primary way to bet the San Diego Padres. Betting the moneyline means you expect the Padres will win the game outright.

However, there's a second layer to betting baseball moneylines–the starting pitchers. When betting baseball, you can bet a team based on which pitcher is starting for either side. That is especially useful when you're betting big favorites because of a specific ace or starter. If you don't care who's pitching, you simply select "action" when making your bet.

Let's imagine San Diego is a small favorite at home. Their moneyline odds are -140, and their opponent's odds are +120. That means you would have to bet $140 on San Diego to win $100. If you wanted to bet against the Padres, you would win $120 if you bet $100 on their opponent.

There can be considerable differences in moneyline odds between MLB teams. It's not uncommon to see the best clubs have -300 moneyline odds against the worst teams in the league.

How to bet the Padres Run Line

If you don't want to bet high moneyline odds, you can bet the run line. Similar to a spread in football or basketball, the run line allows you to bet the San Diego Padres against a 1.5 run spread.

Let's use the example above. If San Diego is a -140 favorite, the puck line would be -1.5 (+160). That means the Padres would need to win the game by two runs or more, but you would win $160 for every $100 bet.

Likewise, you could bet their opponent at odds of +1.5 (-180), which means you would have to bet $180 to win $100 and need the opponent to win or lose the game by one goal to win your bet.

Why are run lines set at 1.5 runs? Because over 28% of baseball games finish with a 1-run difference.

How to bet the Padres Over/Under (Total)

Like other sports, betting the San Diego Padres game total is a popular bet. Let's imagine the Padres is playing tonight, and the total is 8.5 runs. You can simply bet over 8.5 runs or under 8.5 runs. So if you think San Diego and their opponent will have a good offensive night, you'd need nine total runs scored to win your bet. If you think the Padres will have a low-scoring game, you'd need both teams to score eight runs or less.
